David Gillick

Olympian and Vhi ambassador David Gillick is calling on all walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers to join him at Tymon parkrun on Saturday, 6th of August at 9.30am for a special event celebrating Vhi’s More Than Running campaign. Vhi are proud presenting partners of parkrun and are hoping to see many of you there this coming Saturday.

‘More Than Running’ from Vhi wants to encourage people to attend parkrun this summer by highlighting the associated health benefits that taking part in parkrun brings to its participants. parkrun Ireland support local communities in organising free, weekly, timed 5km runs every Saturday at 9.30am. parkrun events are open to all ages and abilities.

In addition to the normal parkrun on Saturday morning, Olympian & Vhi ambassador David Gillick will be on hand to lead the warm-up for parkrun participants and offer support and encouragement to newcomers and seasoned parkrunners alike.

After the route, there will be a Lucky Dip full of branded goodies, a competition where two parkrun pals can win two €50 One4All vouchers and other fun activities happening.  Celebrating the importance of our community, Vhi will be presenting the Community Wall space where fellow parkrunners can reflect on their experiences and share these by leaving a note on the Wall.

Matt Shields, Country Manager at parkrun Ireland is extending a warm welcome to newcomers;

“The community at Tymon parkrun welcomes everyone who would like to come along, so if you’ve never completed a parkrun before or have just let your parkrun habit slip, we would encourage you to give it a go this weekend. Vhi will be rewarding participants and volunteers so Saturday is a great opportunity to get active! Just register at parkrun.ie, bring your barcode and we’ll see you at Tymon parkrun, for what should be a fun filled morning!”

Brighid Smyth, Head of Corporate Communications in Vhi said: parkrun has been growing at an incredible rate and Vhi is delighted to support its growth and development. The success of parkrun lies in the simplicity and accessibility of these local community-based events which are now taking place in over 100 parks nationwide. All ages and abilities are welcome, from those who volunteer, to those who want to run, jog or walk it right up to the Olympians who participate and support their local parkrun. Here at Vhi, we love that there is a place for everyone at parkrun. Vhi is committed to helping our customers and communities live longer, stronger, healthier lives and our partnership with parkrun helps us deliver this. We’re delighted to launch the ‘More Than Running’ campaign today with our fantastic ambassadors Nina Carberry, David Gillick and Dr Brian Carson, which outlines the potential health benefits that parkrun participation can offer.”

Vhi Ambassador and Olympian, David Gillick added;  “I’m really looking forward to helping and encouraging everyone at Tymon parkrun on Saturday morning. parkrun is a brilliant way to get some exercise, socialise and generally get your weekend off to a great start. What I love most about parkrun is how easy it is to get involved, no matter your current ability level. The health benefits of adding parkrun to your weekly routine means that by throwing on your runners on a Saturday morning, and going to your local parkrun event to walk, jog, run or volunteer along the route, you’re setting yourself up not just for the weekend but for life. Hopefully I will see you there on Saturday!’
