Speaking about the announcement, Fitzgerald commented “I am delighted that this funding has been granted today for renovations to Brittas Community Centre under the 2017 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.  “Community spirit is definitely strong in Brittas at the moment. The Tidy Towns group entered the competition this year for the first time since the 1980’s – and were hugely successful. In their report, the Tidy Towns adjudicators noted how the great sense of local ‘Pride of Place’ which has been fostered in Brittas through the work of the Tidy Towns. As local TD, I know the sense of community in Brittas and the development of the Community Centre will help enhance cohesion amongst all those involved in improving the village of Brittas.”

Fitzgerald concluded, “A particular emphasis this year is on projects which have the capacity to support the economic development of rural villages like Brittas, as well as their neighbouring townlands.  The scheme will also support improvements to public amenities in town and village centres, to help make them more attractive places in which to live, work and to visit.” Local Councillor Emer Higgins, and local Brittas resident commented “I am absolutely thrilled to see this investment in Brittas. We are one of Dublin’s most rural villages and with the help of this funding our active community can continue to develop and thrive.  “The BDCA and Brittas Tidy Towns have had a hugely positive impact in the area and harnessed community spirit to protect and improve our little village. The Community Centre is its focal point and it is great to see it benefiting from this significant investment. Well done to the community on their work to achieve this.”
