Tallaght Hospital’s successful annual Summer 99 Charity Cycle raised €30,000 for the Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit this year. This year’s cycle took place in June and saw 124 cyclists follow one of two routes in the Wicklow Mountains, varying between 40km and 99km in distance.

Due to the success of this year’s cycle, Tallaght Hospital is now planning to invest in Advanced Haemodynamic Monitoring equipment. In addition, the Hospital will be in a position to buy a specialised Bariatric High Dependency Chair. This piece of equipment is specially designed to meet the needs of critically ill patients and will assist with earlier mobilisation of patients, which is crucial for long term outcomes from critical illness.

Professor Gerry Fitzpatrick, an anaesthesia and intensive care Consultant at Tallaght Hospital said, “I am delighted that the Summer 99 2017 Charity Cycle was so successful this year. Once again, we had huge numbers participating and we raised much needed funds for the Hospital. I would especially like to acknowledge the support of our corporate sponsors, and the wonderful hospital staff who volunteered in the run up to the event and on the day itself. The event would not have happened without their valuable contributions.”

Lucy Nugent, Deputy CEO of Tallaght Hospital, said, “I want to warmly congratulate everyone who was involved in this year’s charity cycle. It is clear that the event is going from strength to strength. We are all looking forward to hosting the next Summer 99 Charity Cycle next year. The date for this, along with the service to benefit from donations, will be announced in January 2018 so we would encourage people to keep an eye on our website and social media channels.”
