The South Dublin Libraries Summer Stars Reading Adventure is underway! Past Mayor Cllr Peter Kavanagh visited Castletymon Library recently to launch the Summer Stars Reading Adventure 2022. Summer Stars is a fun reading-based programme which is available to children across the country. Students from 1st and 2nd class in Scoil Naois Iosa were treated to a very special story-time as Mayor Kavanagh delivered a lively and entertaining reading of the picture book Nora by Andrew Weale.
“Getting lost in a good story is the best way to spend the day”, Peter Kavanagh told the children. “Once you have your library card there is a whole new world to explore through reading and stories. The Summer Stars reading programme is a great incentive to encourage children to enter this world of reading.”
Each child is invited to register for the adventure at their local library and enjoy reading during the summer holidays. All participants will be given a Summer Stars Reading Card to record and track their own progress and a library reward stamp will be added to their reading card at the library. Children will be encouraged to continue reading with rewards and incentives along the way. At the end of the adventure, all children who took part will be presented with their own Summer Stars certificate.
Along with the Summer Stars initiative, each branch of South Dublin Libraries has an exciting free programme of events for children of all ages taking place over the summer months! Lots of different hobbies and interests are catered for, with arts and crafts, STEAM, music and drumming workshops, magic shows and lots more. All booking information can be obtained from your local library or follow South Dublin Libraries on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
