Applications for the Sports Capital & Equipment Programme 2023 opened on July 17th with increased thresholds for local and regional projects, a local TD has said. Deputy Emer Higgins, TD for Dublin Mid West has welcomed the announcement that the next round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme 2023 is now open for applications with new increased thresholds.

Deputy Higgins said: “The Sports Capital and Equipment Programme grants make a huge difference to sports clubs and community groups across Dublin Mid West. We have been really lucky in our area to benefit from millions of euro of Government investment in our sports clubs and our parks through this grant process and I hope we will have many successful applicants again this year. I would encourage all eligible applicants to read over the updated ‘Guide to Making an Application’ and get your applications in before 8Th September 2023 and as always I am happy to work with local Clubs on their application.

“This year, there are three key expansions of the grant thresholds which applicants should take not of. The maximum grants for local projects has increased from €150,000 to €200,000, the maximum grants for regional projects has increased from €300,000 to €500,000; and there will be a particular focus on supporting sustainability, climate action and gender equality,” added Deputy Higgins.

“For the first time in the history of the sports capital funding, projects will only be considered for grant support if access is guaranteed to men and women on equal terms, as one of the stated objectives of the Programme is to increase female participation. “Applications for improvements to swimming pools will be accepted for the first time which is also very welcome.

“I have seen at first hand the huge difference that Sports Capital and Equipment Programme grants make to sports clubs and community groups across Dublin and our local area and I am also very aware of the impact that inflation has had on our sports clubs and community groups recently, so I have no doubt that there will be huge interest in applying. “As with previous years, I expect there to be huge support for sports clubs and groups in Dublin Mid West in this year’s funding, and I would encourage all eligible applicants to apply,” concluded Deputy Higgins.
