Romayos urging customers to help it secure national award

Family diner and takeaway chain Romayo’s is calling on its legion of customers to support it after its nomination for a major national prize. The family-run company is up against the big guns of Irish takeaway food in the Just Eat National Takeaway Awards 2021, in what it described as a “huge endorsement” of its cuisine.Romayo’s, which employs almost 300 staff, is nominated for the ‘Best National Chain’ award – the first time it is in the running in the top category. The third-generation family business started in 1959 and now operates in 22 locations. Originally Macari’s chip shops, in 2012 it rebranded to Romayo’s to develop its own brand name, standards and consistency, moving to a diner-based format.

“We wanted Romayo’s to be the place known for really tasty food, friendly and fast service and most importantly, with something on the menu to satisfy everyone around the family table,” said Dario Macari, Operational Director of Romayo’s. Pioneers of home delivery, it has been bringing family dinners to doorsteps for 26 years and is rooted in the neighbourhoods in which it operates.

“We are delighted to be nominated. It is a great confidence boost for us and recognition for the huge efforts we put into locally sourcing our high-quality ingredients,” he said. “It’s nominations like these that really reassures us that we are going in the right direction. “We won the Best Chipper in Ireland award last year and it is really positive having stepped up this year, to the Best National Chain category. “We are a family-run business which makes this nomination an achievement in itself. Now we just need our customers to get behind us with votes and help us win!”

Romayo’s is now urging customers to start voting to help it secure the national gong when the winners are announced next February. Just Eat describes the Best National Chain award nominees as restaurants that are “loved by our customers and are considered local heroes by many of us”.

Winners will be chosen in a total of 26 categories –  there are also awards for Best Newcomer, Best International Chain, Best Chipper and Best Spice Bag. Winners’ awards will be showcased on their restaurant page on the Just Eat platform for a year. Romayo’s have previously won four Just Eat awards for Best Chipper and Best Takeaway. Its Clonsilla branch in the capital was named Best Chipper in Ireland in last year’s awards – and credited its use of Dublin potatoes for the victory. You can vote for Romayo’s at: www.just-eat.ie/awards/2021/en-IE/detail/best-national-chain – and be in with the chance to win free takeaway for a year with Just Eat. Voting closes on December 31st.
