Outrage at swimming pool closure

Trevor Gilligan Clondalkin

Local Councillor Trevor Gilligan said “Customers have been informed that the swimming pool in the Green Isle Hotel, Clondalkin was to close on the 4th of July. So unfortunately, for the local community, it was not a happy independence day.It is understood the closure is due to the cost of the running of the pool including heating & electricity. “Day passes” were widely popular in the community however, this income stream will be gone now that the pool is closing. It is understood the gym has already lost 50-80 members (approximately 20%) out of an approximate 400+ members”.

“Will the gym be next to go? Whilst the cost of gym membership has been reduced, this will lead to more loss of earnings. A lot of members want to use the gym and the pool, this option however is now not available. If they fill the pool, it is gone forever. It has been a part of this community for as long as I can remember. I’m calling on Green Isle mgmt. to reopen the pool as a matter of urgency as it is a hugely popular amenity in the community with regular visitors & swimming lessons taking place” stated Cllr Trevor Gilligan PC, Clondalkin, Newcastle, Rathcoole, Saggart, Brittas.
