Older persons try new activities as part of European Week of Sport

European Week of Sport Tallaght

European Week of Sport took place from 23rd to 30th of September to promote sport and physical activity in countries across Europe. The week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. As part of European Week of Sport, Age & Opportunity held a number of activities in line with Covid-19 restrictions, including horse-riding, archery, clay pigeon shooting, salsa and walking football. This gave people an opportunity to try something they’ve never done before. Age & Opportunity is the national organisation working to enable the best possible quality of life for us all as we age.

Two of their FitLine mentors, Brenda Doyle and Mairead McLoughlin, tried horse riding for the first time with the Fettercairn Horse Riding Project in Tallaght. They both really enjoyed it and the weather even played it’s part. Kingswood and Kilnamanagh Men’s Club travelled to the wonderful Abbeyfield Farm in Clane, Co. Kildare to try their hand at Archery and Clay Pigeon Shooting. The lads certainly enjoyed testing their aim and even managed a few bullseye’s.
