O’Connor calls for action on Emergency Department activity.

Tallaght Hospital

Local Councillor, Charlie O’Connor, has called on the HSE to continue to properly resource the Emergency Department at Tallaght University Hospital.

He raised the matter at the monthly meeting of the Regional Health Forum and sought an update.

He was given an update by the Dublin Midland Hospital Group as follows:

“Activity at the Emergency Department at TUH has seen a reduction in activity in 2020 when compared with 2019. This year 1,015 less patients have been on trollies in comparison with the previous year, a reduction of 53% for the first five months of the year. This 2020 reduction follows the trend from 2019 which saw a reduction of 1,600 trollies. Since the start of March there has been no breach of the TrolleyGar numbers at 8 am. At certain times of the week/day we experience peaks in attendances, priority is given to ensuring that the patient experience times are kept to a minimum. TUH has however seen a return to normal ED attendances in recent weeks.”

Councillor O’Connor acknowledged the efforts being made to combat Covid19 and paid tribute to Hospital staff at Tallaght in that regard.

He added that it was important that attention would continue to be given to routine activity at the Emergency Department.
