Local Dublin West TD, Emer Higgins addressed the Dail recently following the historical Budget announced. She spoke of the light the Budget offered to people who are facing such hard times. As she spoke in the Chamber, she referred to the economy this time last year in comparison to where we are today. She said, “this Budget provides security and stability for those that need it.” As she spoke, she outlined to the chamber that she welcomed the wage subsidy scheme that has been extended right throughout 2021. The €222m rescue package for arts, tourism and sport means our musicians, our artists and our Sports Clubs increased health care workers, significant increase for Gardai and increased levels of SNAs. “The investments in housing and climate change will deliver long term change. So too will the significant investment in our health service. This intervention will get us through Covid and build a stronger health service for the future. It includes a ground-breaking €100m for our disability services and a historic 38m investment in our mental health services,” continued Deputy Higgins. “This budget protects lives and it protects livelihoods,” concluded Emer Higgins T.D.
