Lucan Lights Up for Christmas

Santa Claus paid us a visit this week to say hello to all the children in Lucan in advance of the big night on Christmas Eve. He arrived at the Spa Hotel at 3:30 in the afternoon and left his sleigh and reindeer parked in St. Catherine’s Park. They had a good rest and loved grazing in the park. The Honda Goldwing Club of Ireland with a Garda escort drove Santa to the village.

Santa thought Lucan Comhaltas were “go hiontach ar fad, ar fad” and we all thought Santa’s Irish “thar barr”! He was delighted to see Mrs. Claus entertaining the children and to hear the Lucan Gospel Choir singing “Santa Claus is coming to town” as he did a walkabout the village green. He then retired to his Grotto, built for him by the 180th Lucan South Scouts, with big thanks to Finnstown Castle Hotel for loaning us a chair fit for Santa’s grotto. His two elves Chloe and Sam greeted him with hot chocolate and marshmallows. His favourite drink, he told us. All the children had a chance to meet and talk to Santa and were super excited to take a Santa Selfie with all their family. Santa told us he was very pleased with the children of Lucan and confirmed they are all on the good list. CÓRus sang “Rocking around the Christmas Tree” and Mayor Councillor Vicki Casserly and James Casserly switched on the Christmas lights at 5pm. Santa then told us he’s all set for Christmas Eve and looking forward to his whirlwind tour of the world. We promised him we would leave milk, cookies and carrots out on Christmas Eve and then we said our goodbyes as he headed back to the North Pole.
