Loreto College Crumlin Opens New Computer Lab with Equipment Provided by Griffith College

Loreto College Crumlin opened their newly modified computer lab last week having been donated 20 MAC computers and €2,000 from Griffith College.

As part of Griffith College’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) bursary, Loreto College was gifted €2,000 to be used to improve STEAM related facilities within the school and an additional 20 MAC computers donated by the college’s IT department spearheaded by John Molohan.

Loreto’s Principal Mary Ellen Murphy arranged for an old space within the school to be transformed to a suitable IT lab. The lab, which was renovated with the help of locals and the school’s Parents Association is now home to top of the range equipment.

Mary Ellen Murphy said, “With our new facilities, all of our students now have improved access to IT.  Thanks to Griffith College for such a wonderful initiative. Our Parents’ Association raised money for the new furniture and local business man, Paul Crampton of Keogh Interior Fitout, fitted the work tops and electrics.  It was a great community effort.  Ní neart go cur le chéile.”

Griffith College’s Schools Liaison Officer Sinéad O’Callaghan said, “It’s just fantastic to see these perfect PC’s being utilised by students. It will assist the students in developing their research skills and completing project work for their studies. Unfortunately, the Department of Education has not made it a priority to make enough financial assistance available to schools for the upgrade and rejuvenation of PC labs within schools nationally. However, the Schools Liaison and IT department at Griffith is delighted to be in a position to provide this support to Loreto Crumlin, supporting the College’s mission to encourage all students’ access to STEAM experiences in school.”

Griffith College hopes to continue delivering such STEAM initiatives going forward, as well as a Creative bursary with advertising agency, IAPI. For more information on these bursaries, visit www.griffith.ie.
