Recently Esker Celtic FC U12 Intermediate Team took on Shamrock Rovers FC at Hermitage Park in Lucan. The fixture itself attracted plenty of interest as the game was watched by a sizeable gathering from the sidelines. Onlookers were treated to an exhibition of slick passing football, superb defending, vital blocks, crucial saves, swift counter-attacking and well-taken goals.
Esker, coached by Kevin Doyle, held their own and restricted a highly-talented Rovers side for much of the match. Trailing at half-time, the hosts broke to equalise straight after the restart through the impressive Josh Kenny and had goalkeeper Finn Heffernan to thank for producing several fine stops to keep Esker within touching distance of Rovers until a late flurry won it for the visitors.
