At an event marking International Volunteer Day in Dublin, members of Dublin Simon Community were recognised and showcased as part of a special film screening highlighting voluntary work over the last year. The ‘Seen and Heard’ event was organised by national organisation Léargas, who manage exchange programmes and projects across Europe in education, youth and community work, sport, as well as vocational education and training.

Celine Martin, Léargas Head of Youth, Sport & ESC Development said “We are so thrilled to celebrate the work, commitment and incredible talent of volunteers in Dublin Simon Community alongside organisations across Ireland, who engage in projects tackling issues including poverty, exclusion, homelessness, social injustice, and climate change. “You can’t underestimate the value of giving your time to working with and for others on a voluntary basis – learning about issues as well as taking what you have learned and sharing that best practice with other voluntary groups here in Ireland and across Europe.”

The European Solidarity Corps funds and supports young people aged between 18 and 30 from EU member states, to volunteer or self-organise projects that benefit communities  and young people can volunteer at home or abroad. Renowned activist, actor and screenwriter Emmet Kirwan addressed the ‘Seen and Heard’ event, which included over forty volunteers of all ages from across Ireland, and featured a film reel from nationwide projects, panel discussions and workshops.
