Veteran Dublin Politician Seeks Fifth Council Term

Dublin Cllr Trevor Gilligan is seeking a fifth term on South Dublin County Council. First elected at 20 years old in 2004, he has been elected on four occasions to South Dublin Council. At 40 years old, Gilligan is the longest serving councillor in the Clondalkin LEA which includes Newcastle, Rathcoole, Saggart & Brittas.

“I was 40 this year and I was 20 when I first ran. I have spent half my life on the council and my entire adult life. I don’t know any way of life, other than politics. The landscape has drastically changed. Each day, I relish the job and enjoy every moment of it. Whether it’s going about my daily life or engaging with residents, discussing political issues. I’m very lucky. I was just out of college and went straight into politics. Having lived in Clondalkin all my life, I now enjoy rearing my own children here. They are probably sick to the teeth of me constantly telling them about my childhood stories growing up here.”“For me, it’s not really politics, but rather my local community, neighbours, friends, my heritage. Where I have lived all my life.”
