Rain didn’t dampen community spirit at the 5th Four Districts Fun Day in Rathcoole

Rain didn’t dampen community spirit at the 5th Four Districts Fun Day in Rathcoole according to local Councillor Emer Higgins.
“The 2017 4 Districts Fun Day was a huge hit. We had a number of new attractions this year that proved really successful – a choo choo train and a very popular dog show. We were honoured to welcome An Tanaiste Frances Fitzgerald and Mayor Paul Gogarty to the event which attracted hundreds of families from across Rathcoole, Newcastle, Saggart and Brittas. We sold a record number of burgers at our BBQ and had a plan B ready to go for when the rain started to fall. The show must go on as they say and it certainly did for Dancity and our magicians who simply relocated their entertainment shows into Rathcoole’s fabulous Community Centre,” said local Councillor for the area Emer Higgins who helps organise the event.

“We were thrilled to have such a busy event this year despite the weather – definitely bigger than the last couple of years. Entertainment was on offer for the whole family with everything from a fairground carousel, music by local musicians including the RAMS in Rhythm and Peter Gaynor, pop-up market stalls, magic shows, puppet shows, an inflatable obstacle course, a toddlers area thanks to Happyfeet, a Dublin Civil Defence Fire brigade and Garda motorbike and horse as well as fantastic petting zoo with way too many snakes and creepy crawlies for my liking,” continued Higgins, the new Leader of the Fine Gael Group on South Dublin.

“We had tremendous support from the Gardai, Civil Defence and South Dublin County Council – but most importantly we had fantastic support from the community. Huge well done to Neville, Christy, Tricia, Anne and Treasa all the Community Centre staff, all our volunteers, our magicians, our puppeteer, Kelly McCarthy O’Hickey and her Happy Feet Team, Superfit, St Marys, Rathcoole Boys, Colin Walker and his face painters, Angela and her dog crew, Joe and his BBQ chefs, the Civil Defence, the Gardai – especially Frank Howe, our pet farmer Crazy Critters, the kagoebouncers and our raffle prize donators, Dancity Kim Rice Shortall, Anita Kearns Fletcher and their talented kids. Our musicians including the RAMs, Peter Gaynor and Music Generation were amazing as always,” concluded Cllr. Emer Higgins, local Councillor for Clondalkin, Newcastle and Rathcoole.
