4 Districts Fun Day A Great Example of Powerful Community Spirit

Family Fun Day 4 Districts Rathcoole

It was an action-packed weekend in Rathcoole and the Four Districts villages of Rathcoole, Newcastle, Saggart and Brittas. This year saw the 7th annual 4 Districts Fun Day take place. The successful event attracted over 1,500 people who came down to support the day. Speaking about the event, local Councillor Emer Higgins who helps organise it said, “It was great to see so many families (and their dogs!) having fun and enjoying the entertainment at our 7th Family Fun Day.” “The event is volunteer-based, led by a committee of dedicated local people. We had everything from market stalls and music to inflatables, a reptile zoo and pet farm, a choo-choo train, toddlers area and a dog show! The weather was perfect, and it was a fantastic free day out for families in the area,” continued Cllr. Emer Higgins. “Family Fun Day would not be possible without the collaboration with local businesses, including Happyfeet, and entertainment form the RAMS in Rythm and services like the Civil Defence,” said Cllr. Emer Higgins who is herself a founding member of the 4 Districts Fun Day committee. Meanwhile at Commercials, local sports people were out in force to raise funds by hosting a charity All-Stars Football and Hurling match Play for Amy. “It was lovely to see such support for Amy. The GAA is fantastic at mobilising community spirit and the clubs in our area are brilliant examples of this. They got the entire community to rally round in support of Amy. It was great to see Jim Gavin take time out to show his support,” said Cllr. Emer Higgins who attended the event.
