20 storey apartment block at the old Foxhunter Pub

Foxhunter Site Lucan

There has been an outpouring of anger from local residents at a proposed development at the old Foxhunter Pub in Lucan. Fox Connect Ltd, owned by property developers Patrick McKillen Jr and Matt Ryan, has submitted an application to build 161 apartments on the site at the Foxhunter Pub. The application includes 2 three-story blocks and a 20-storey tower block.

People Before Profit Councillor Madeleine Johansson commented: “This development is completely out of proportion in relation to the existing residential area. The vehicular entrance to the site is proposed to be through the existing Hermitage estate by opening up the cul-de-sac at Hermitage Gardens. This will significantly increase traffic in the estate and have a negative impact on existing residents. The 20-storey tower block will also be overlooking existing houses in Hermitage estate.

“The lands are currently zoned for Retail/Warehousing with Residential development not permitted on the site. In the application the developer states that they have explored retail development options but found the site too small for this purpose. However, they could simply develop the site for small retail or re-develop the existing pub. “I have submitted an objection to the application to the council and am urging local residents to do the same.”
